Edgar "Ed" Formanek

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Friday, February 19, 1993
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 67

Edgar Raymond Formaneck, better known as "Ed" to his family and friends, was born February 24, 1925, on a farm east of Aurora, South Dakota, to Frank J. and Anna (Banghart) Formanek.

He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Aurora High School in 1943.  Ed served in the United States Navy during World War II.

While in the service he was united in marriage to Zena Mae Lloyd, better known as "Penny", on April 7, 1946, at Smith Center, Kansas.

After his discharge from the Navy in June 1946, they made their home on the Formanek farm east of Aurora, which they operated for 10 years before moving to Torrance, California, in 1956.  While in Torrance, Ed worked as a machinist for the Martin Marietta Corporation until 1967 when they moved to Philip, South Dakota, where he worked as a machine shop foreman at Little Scotchman Industries until 1979.  They returned to Torrance in 1979 and he resumed his employment with the Martin Marietta Corp. until his retirement in 1988.

They returned to Philip in 1988 and made their home on the little farm two miles north of Philip.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Zena Mae "Penny" Formanek, of Philip, South Dakota; three sons, James Formanek of Phoenix, Arizona, Ray Formanek of Philip, and Dwayne Formanek of Colstrip, Montana; two daughters, Victoria Ann Formanek of Tempe, Arizona, and Rebecca Lee Formanek of Custer, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; one brother, Dale Formanek of Salem, Oregon; and a host of other relatives and friends.
