Lawrence F. McDaniel

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, March 25, 1992
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 91

Lawrence F. McDaniel was born April 11, 1900, on a farm near Spencer, South Dakota, to Charles Wayne "Fred" and Minnie (Robbins) McDaniel.

He grew up in the Spencer area where he attended rural school.  As a young man he worked on his parents' farm.

He was united in marriage to Virgie Craig on January 2, 1921, at the church parsonage in Spencer.

In March 1921 they moved onto a ranch 12 miles northeast of Philip, South Dakota.  They lived there until 1955 when they moved into Philip, but Lawrence continued to be active on the farm until retiring in 1966.

While in Philip, Lawrence kept a team of horses and for over 25 years he would hitch up the team and give children rides around the town.

Lawrence was a member of the United Church and the Bad River Senior Citizens Center, both of Philip.  He also served as a Haakon County Commissioner from 1958 to 1960.
