Jeanne Uhlir

Gloria Jean Miller, better known as "Jeanne" to her family and friends, was born June 5, 1941, to Nathan W. and Adeline E. (Stroschein) Miller in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

She grew up in the Aberdeen area and during her sophomore year of high school she moved with her family to Kadoka where she graduated from Kadoka High School.

Jeanne attended business college in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

She was united in marriage to Stanton V. "Beef" Uhlir on July 21, 1962, at Kadoka, South Dakota.  They made their home in Kadoka all their married life.

She worked as a clerk for Hogen's Hardware and later owned and operated The Creative Cottage Ceramic Shop.  She then worked for BankWest of Kadoka until being elected Jackson County Clerk of Courts in 1984, a position she held until April of 1987 when illness forced her retirement.

Jeanne was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kadoka, the Badlands Lions Club, and the Kougar Booster Club of Kadoka High School.  She was instrumental in organizing the "Young Woman of the Year" program in Kadoka.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Bart Uhlir of Kadoka; her daughter, Beth Uhlir of Kadoka; one granddaughter, Erica Uhlir of Kadoka; one grandson, Luke Carlson of Kadoka; her father, Nathan W. Miller of California; her step-father, Marv Graves of Aberdeen; her brother, Merle Miller of Temecula, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Stanton "Beef" Uhlir, she was preceded in death by her mother.
