Harold V. Welshof Wall, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, November 12, 1991

Harold V. Welsh was born November 12, 1907, at Thomas and Myrtle (Hankins) Welsh on his parents' homestead near Wasta, South Dakota.
As a child, he moved with his parents to Alberta, Canada, where he started his elementary education. Later the family moved to Hysham, Montana, where they resided until moving back to the Welsh homestead near Wasta. He completed his education in the Wasta School System.
As a young man he worked for several years on the railroad.
He was united in marriage to Mary McDonald on April 23, 1927, at Wall, South Dakota.
Harold was custodian for the Wall School for several years. Then he and his son, Wesley, owned and operated a grocery store prior to him becoming a Standard Oil dealer as well as a trainer for the new oil dealers in this area for many years. He was also Water Superintendent and operated the filtration plant for many years in Wall.
He and his son, Wesley, owned and operated the Welsh Motel in Wall until his retirement in 1970.
Harold was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wall since 1936. He served as mayor of Wall as well as fire chief. He also served on the Wall School Board.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary, of Wall; three sons, Wesley C. Welsh of Wall, Gail Arthur Welsh of Spearfish, and Dr. Gary L. Welsh of Rapid City; one daughter, Laura Jean (Mrs. George) Gunn of Wasta; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lyle D. Welsh of Rapid City, and Clayton T. Welsh of Hill City; three sisters, Mildred Pierce of Alzada, Montana, Alberta Welsh of Denver, Colorado, and Dorothy Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Harold was preceded in death by one son in infancy; his parents; and two brothers, Charles and Allen Welsh.
