Harry W. Griswold was born August 19, 1908, in Douglas County near Platte, South Dakota, to Frank C. and Alice (Teeslink) Griswold.
As a small child he moved with his parents to a ranch on Indian Creek north of Belvidere. He grew up there and received his elementary education in rural schools prior to graduating with the first graduating class of Belvidere High School in 1926.
He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen and Spearfish Normal in Spearfish, South Dakota.
He taught rural school in the Jackson and Washabaugh Counties for ten years.
Harry was united in marriage to Lila Renning on April 18, 1931, at Philip, South Dakota.
They owned and operated a ranch in the Belvidere area from 1937 until retiring in November of 1990. Since November, because of health reasons, they moved to Rapid City where they made their home with their daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Art Glynn.
Harry was a member of the Belvidere Presbyterian Church and the South Dakota Stock Growers Association.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lila Griswold, of Belvidere; one son, Richard Griswold of Berlin, Germany; his daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Art) Glynn of Rapid City; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Etta Willert of Kadoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, John, Richard, Edward, Charles, Alva, and Loyd Griswold; three sisters, Alice Konst, Laura McDonald, and Frances Quinn.
