Peder Kjerstadof Quinn, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, January 22, 1991

Peder Kjerstad was born January 22, 1905, on his parents' farm in Brule County near Platte, South Dakota, to Emil Kjerstead Sr. and Gurine (Ellingsen) Kjerstad.
At the age of three he moved with his parents to a homestead north of Quinn, South Dakota. He grew up on the homestead and received his education in the Kruse Country School north of Quinn.
As a young man he attended a mechanics trade school in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and then returned to the Quinn area where he farmed and ranched with his parents.
Peder was united in marriage to Pearl E. Hildebrandt on March 12, 1929, at her parents' homestead north of Quinn. They owned and operated a ranch-farm north of Quinn all their married life.
Peder was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Wall and was confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Quinn on March 24, 1929.
He served as treasurer for the Lake Creek School District for several years and was Lake Creek Township Assessor for several years.
He worked as a field representative for the A.S.C.S. Office in Pennington County for 30 years.
They won the Greater South Dakota Achievement Award in 1964 that was presented by the South Dakota Soil Conservation District. They were also charter members of the South Dakota Flying Farmers Association, which was established in the late 1940s.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Pearl Kjerstad, of Quinn; two sons, Floyd Kjerstad and Roger Kjerstad, both of Jackson, Wyoming; two daughters, Alice Poss of Oracle, Oregon, and Velda (Mrs. Kenneth) Bodkin of Byers, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; six brothers, John Kjerstad, Elnoris Kjerstad and Konrad Kjerstad, all of Quinn, and Melvin Kjerstad and George Washington Kjerstad, both of Wall and Lawrence Kjerstad of Rapid City; two sisters, Anna (Mrs. Edgar) Schreiber of Quinn, and Marie (Mrs. Albert) Reiner of Kansas City, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Peder was preceded in death by one daughter, Vida Fillingsness; two grandsons, Blaine Bodkin and Claude Poss; one great-grandson, Jeremy South; his parents; and one brother, Emil Kjerstad Jr.
