Eltor Buxcel

of Okaton, South Dakota, died on Friday, July 6, 1990
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 80

Eltor Buxcel was born March 13, 1910, on a farm in Hutchinson County near Olivet, South Dakota, to Theodore and Christina (Frank) Buxcel.

As a child he moved with his parents to a farm in Mellette County near Stamford, South Dakota.

He grew up there and attended Big White Rural School.

Eltor worked for various farmers in that area, including his future brother-in-law, Philip Eckert.

He was united in marriage to Tillie Eckert on March 28, 1937, in St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Midland.  They owned and operated a farm-ranch in the northwest Jones County all their married life.

Eltor was confirmed in Friedens Lutheran Church of Stamford, South Dakota.  He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as Elder for many years and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. 

He served on the Regional Draft Board for many years and was on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator in Midland.  He served as Township Supervisor for many years.  Among his hobbies were hunting and fishing and all types of sports, of which baseball was his favorite.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Tillie, of Okaton; three sons, Virgil Buxcel of Yankton, South Dakota, Norman Buxcel of Okaton, and Clifford Buxcel of Murdo, South Dakota; one daughter, Doris Buxcel, of Wall, South Dakota; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Reuben Buxcel of Belvidere, South Dakota, Sam Buxcel of Hot Springs, South Dakota, Alfred Buxcel of Rapid City, South Dakota, and George Buxcel of Box Elder, South Dakota; three sisters, Alvena (Mrs. Philip) Eckert of Okaton, Rosa (Mrs. Beryl) Masteller of Black Hawk, South Dakota, and Clara (Mrs. Meril) Wolff of Rapid City, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Eltor was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Albert Buxcell, and three in infancy.
