Donald I. "Don" King

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Thursday, March 8, 1990
at the Philip Nursing Home in Philip at the age of 79

Donald I. King, better known as "Don" to his family and friends, was born July 9, 1910, on a farm in Charles Mix County near Platte, South Dakota, to Ira Edwin and Sara Cordelia (Greene) King.

He grew up and received his education in the Platte area.

In 1930 he moved with his family to the West River area, settling in Haakon County near Philip, South Dakota.

Don was united in marriage to Eileen Pollreisz on February 13, 1934, at Philip, South Dakota.

They lived in New York prior to moving to California in 1937 and back to Haakon County in 1942.  In 1944 they moved onto a ranch they had previously owned, located 19 miles north of Philip.  They continued to operate the ranch all their married life.

His wife, Eileen, preceded him in death on October 11, 1974.

Don continued to live on the ranch until health reasons forced him to make his home in the Philip Nursing Home in March 1988.

Don was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milesville, South Dakota, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2679 of Philip.  Don enjoyed playing cards and bowling.

Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Marlene, and her husband, Doug Vander Pol of Kissimmee, Florida; one son, Rick, and his wife, Donna King of Philip, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Collene Logan of Philip, and Irene (Mrs. Stan) Den Otter of Nisland, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
