Lola Lanora Barber

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, April 17, 1988
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 66

Lola Lanora Alden was born September 5, 1921, in Charles Mix County near Geddes, South Dakota, to Lough Louis "Jack" and Alice Mary (Lange) Alden.

At the age of six she moved with her parents to the Wanblee area.  She grew up there and received her education in the Wanblee area.

Lola was united in marriage to Harmon Elton Barber on April 4, 1942, in Philip, South Dakota.

They made their home in Wanblee where they owned and operated a general store for two years.  In 1944 they moved to a ranch located in the Badlands, on the White River, east of Interior.  They lived there until 1949 when they moved into Kadoka, so their children could attend school.

While in Kadoka they started the Wagon Wheel Cabin Court which they oeprated along with the ranch.

In 1973, Lola moved to the Black Hills area where she lived until 1980 when she moved to Kildeer, Noth Dakota.  While in Kildeer she and her son, Greg, owned and operated the Trails End Motel.

In 1983 she retired and moved to Philip where she continued to make her home.

Lola was a member of the Presbyterian Church.  Her many loves in life were children and all outdoor activities including fishing and gardening.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four sons, Michael Ray Barber of Tampa, Florida, Ronald Elton Barber of Rapid City, South Dakota, Dwight Douglas Barber of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Gregory Allen Barber of Philip, South Dakota; one daughter, Roxann (Mrs. Raymond) Formanek of Philip, South Dakota; two step-daughters, Maxine (Mrs. Joe) Boone of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Areleen (Mrs. Sam) Guttilla of Chicago, Illinois; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one brother, Bob Alden of Sturgis, South Dakota; three sisters, Joyce Morsett of Gordon, Nebraska, Martha Candiff of Sturgis, South Dakota, and Betty Walsh of Phoenix, Arizona; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, her parents, two brothers, and four sisters.
