William "Bill" Lockettof Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, October 25, 1987

William Lockett was born August 26, 1913, at Custer, South Dakota, to Clinton and Annette (Steckman) Lockett.
The family moved to Philip, South Dakota, where he grew up and graduated from Philip High School in 1931. During his senior year he worked at the Standard Oil Station where Corky's Super Valu now stands.
William was united in marriage to Ruth Koth on July 3, 1935, in Philip.
In 1936 he took over the White Eagle Mobil Station until 1937 when he became ill. He worked for the South Dakota Highway Department on road maintenance. In 1944 he worked as a combination man for the Central West Power Company in Philip, which later became West Central Electric.
He worked three days a week as a diesel engineer and other days helping the local manager on line maintenance, selling, and installing electrical appliances and reading meters.
He became local manager of West Central Electric in 1954. He obtained a commercial license for two-way radio systems and did maintenance on them for West Central. He retired in 1976.
He was a trustee of the Philip Methodist Church and served several different times on the Philip Independent School Board. He was a member of the Bad River Senior Citizens Center Board, supervisory committee of Rushmore Electric Credit Union and Philip Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Philip; three daughters, JoAnn (Mrs. Hugh) Hart of Spearfish, Janet (Mrs. Bob) Humphrey of Dumfries, Virginia, and Sharon (Mrs. Dick) Pipal of Grand Island, Nebraska; a brother, H.A. Lockett of Billings, Montana; two sisters, Norma (Mrs. Charles) Fox of Stockton, California, and Kathyrn Hanson of San Jose, California; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Allen.
A memorial has been established.
