Blanche Dolezal

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Thursday, March 26, 2015
at the Philip Nursing Home in Philip at the age of 98

Blanche Violet Sampson was born April 3, 1916 to Carl and Rose (Rada) Sampson. She grew up on the family homestead south of Midland and attended Liberty country school, taking 8 grades in 7 years. Her dream was to continue on to high school, but when that didn’t materialize, she became her father’s right hand man, and shared many stories of working with her dad.

Blanche married Aldrich Dolezal May 18, 1937, and they made their home north of Belvidere. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed keeping house and she kept a steady supply of baked delicacies and bread on hand, as well as her home cooked meals.

She and Aldrich were both baptized at the Belvidere Presbyterian church, and it was important to them to raise their family with Christian values. (They also believed to spare the rod was to spoil the child.) She served as deacon in the Kadoka Presbyterian Church, and also as president of the KPW and taught Sunday School for many years.

Blanche loved to dance. One of her favorite recollections of her growing up years was attending the many dances around the community. She could name her dance partners even in later years, and many times she would lead the conversation to the years when dances were fun, bands were outstanding, and everyone danced with everyone. She enjoyed those days. She also enjoyed scrabble games with her family and friends, cards, and crossword puzzles. She was an avid conservative and always deplored waste and excess. She thought highly of Republican presidents, and named her stuffed dog, “Mr. Bush”.

She lived in Kadoka from 1973 until 2001, and then to everyone’s surprise, announced she was moving to Philip to the Senechal apartments. She decided she wanted to give up her Buick before she caused an accident, and so she did. When she needed assisted care, she decided she should move to Silver leaf, and so she did. She always knew when she needed another level of care, and met old age with dignity and a sense of humor.

Her parents and her husband preceded her death. Also her two brothers, Stanley Sampson and Vern Sampson, her sister-in-law Arlene ( Stanley) Sampson, two brothers-in-law; Andrew Blom and Jim McKillip, granddaughter Grace (Dolezal) DeVries, grandson Jade Wheeler, and great granddaughter Lexy Amiotte. She was also preceded in death by all of her husband’s siblings.

She is survived by her son Larry (Joy) Dolezal, and her daughter Joyce (Justin) Wheeler. Also her grandchildren which include Carmen (Jim) Nemec, John (Jamie) Dolezal, Joan (Jim) Cantrell, Jackie (Gary) Hansen, Jena (Mike) Amiotte, and Jim (Sonny) Wheeler, and the list also includes her grandson-in-law Tom DeVries. Her great grandchildren include Sarah DeVries, Trisha (Landon) Bork; Beth, Jacob, Joanna, Kayla, and Dale Nemec; Travis and Madilyn Dolezal; Eli, Rachel (Nick) Blumenthal,Ty, Tara (Jace) Schofield, and Morgan Cantrell; Kreid, Justena and Adam Amiotte; Kyle and Cort Wheeler. Last year, on her birthday, great-great grandson, Cordell Schofield, was born, and together with Kaitlyn and Kendrick Blumenthal make the great-great grandkid list.
She is also survived by her two sisters, Dorothy Blom and Grace McKillip; two sisters-in-law, Isabelle Sampson and Lillian Dolezal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka.

Interment was at the Kadoka Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Kadoka Presbyterian Church.

Our sincere sympathy to all of Blanche's family. I will always remember Blanche as a lady of faith, eloquence, beauty, dignity and humble. Guess that is what one would call a servant of the Lord. What more can one ask of another? May you all know you are in our thoughts and prayers, as you celebrate her life. What a better season to rejoice in her eternal life! She has also "risen".

Joyce, Larry and families, I was sorry to hear about Blanche's passing. She was one of the most upbeat people I knew. A vivid memory I have of her in the 1960s is dancing the Lindy and the Charleston with my mother and other Belvidere ladies to show us younger gals just how it was done. May she rest in peace.
