Orvus "O.G." Shearer

Orvus G. Shearer, better known as "O.G." to his family and friends, was born June 19, 1911, on a ranch in Young County, Texas, to Jehu G. and Emma M. (Sanders) Shearer.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Woolsey on December 14, 1931, at Floydada, Texas.  To this union was born three children.

They lived in Floyd County, Texas, until 1952 when they moved north of Wall, South Dakota, where they farmed and ranched until October 1986.  O.G. had operated a combine for 58 consecutive years including this past harvest.

In 1969, O.G. and Elizabeth moved into Wall where they owned and operated the Frontier Acres Antique Shop until 1981.

Up to the time of moving to South Dakota, O.G. was active in sports, including playing and managing of a softball team, playing golf, and had been an avid hunter and fisherman all his life.

He was best known for his interest in antique cars and horse drawn equipment and his abiity to handle horses.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Crescent Masonic Lodge #210 A.F. & A.M. of Wall, and the Family Wagon Train Club.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Elizabeth of Wall; one son, Lavon Shearer of Wall; one daughter, Mrs. Gladwin (Juanice) Paulsen of Custer, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Howard (Dorris) Lawson of New Castle, Colorado, Mrs. I.H. (Maurine) Parks of South Plains, Texas, Mrs. Ray (Bessie) Burns and Mrs. Z.D. (Martha) Blaine, both of Amarillo, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Winona Beth Shearer; his parents; and three brothers, George G., Edfred, and Ellis Shearer.
