Joseph "Joe" Brown

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Saturday, May 24, 1986
at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 59

Joseph L. Brown, better known as "Joe" to his family and friends, was born July 3, 1926, at Rosebud, South Dakota, to Joseph and Eloise (Trimble) Brown.  

He lived at Wanblee, South Dakota, and Interior, South Dakota, before moving into Kadoka in 1928.  Growing up in Kadoka, he graduated from Kadoka High School in 1944, then entered the U.S. Navy and served mostly in the Pacific.

Following his discharge, he returned to Kadoka and also attended South Dakota State College in Brookings.

On March 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to Letoy Leggett at Kadoka, South Dakota.

Joe owened and operated the Kadoka Barber Shop until 1961, when he became a deputy state fire marshall until 1972.  He then worked as a special investigator for the Bureau of Indian Affiars, from which he was medically retired in 1975.

He was an announcer for Little Britches, high school and college rodeos and the South Dakota Rodeo Association.  He also announced for numerous other events in the area.

Joe was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kadoka Buffalo Stampede, Kadoka Ameircan Legion Post #27, Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge, Evergreen Chapter #97 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Yankton Consitory, the Naja Shrine Temple, and the Pierre Vetersans of Foreign Wars Post.

Survivors include his wife, Letoy Brown of Kadoka; three sons, Joe Brown of Gillette, Wyoming, and Bill and Tom Brown of Kadoka; three daughters, Mrs. Randy (Leanne) Neuhauser of Midland, and Tish and Ellie Brown of Kadoka; nine grandchildren; his mother, Eloise Brown of Kadoka; one brother, Edwin "Sub" Brown of Longmont, Colorado; three sisters, Mrs. Martin (Adele) Tries of Great Falls, Montana, Mrs. Marvis (Florence) Hogen of Kadoka, and Mrs. Doris Rock of Pierre, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.
