Oliver M. Iwan was born January 18, 1901, at Rice, Minnesota, to Reverend Adolph and Matilda Iwan.
With his family he moved to various places in Wisconsin, Minnesota, eastern South Dakota, and central North Dakota where his father pastored churches. From Harvey, North Dakota, the family moved to Pueblo, Colorado, where Oliver worked in the steel mills for a time and had various other jobs.
In 1922 he moved with his parents, three brothers, and one sister to a ranch in the northwest corner of Mellette County where he ranched until his death.
On June 1, 1938, he married Stella Brower at Martin, South Dakota, and the couple lived their entire married life in Mellette County.
Oliver belonged to the Belvidere Presbyterian Church, the Murdo Lions Club, and the White River Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Stella, of Midland; one daughter, Patricia Jones, of Huron; one son, Sydney, of Midland; three grandsons, Lee, Scott, and Jason Jones; many nieces and nephews; two brothers, Don of Hill City, and Les of White River; one sister, Ruth Heaton Vanderkleed of Deadwood, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold, and his two sisters, Miriam Brower and Edna Harris.
