Dwight Louderof Draper, South Dakota, died on Monday, May 2, 2016
|
Harold Dwight Louder was the eldest of six children, born on May 13, 1930 to Harold and Anna (Marshall) Louder. He attended Lincoln Crest Country School through 8th grade and graduated from Draper High School. He had many stories of riding horse back and forth to the country school. He started college in Brookings but came home to farm and ranch.
On June 15, 1950 he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Volmer. From this union came six children, Bradley, Randall, Roxanne, Susan, Kevin and Darin. Dwight and Dorothy started farming and ranching north of Draper, moving onto the Marshall homestead, where he resided until moving into the Kadoka nursing home in November of 2010.
Dwight’s life was farming and ranching with a few vacations thrown in every few years. Dwight served on the Lincoln Township Board, West River Implement Board and the Jones County Hospital Board.
Sometime in his early 20’s he took flying lessons, attained his pilot license, took a solo flight and then his Dad sold the airplane putting an end to that hobby. Dwight didn’t have time for many hobbies but did enjoy reading and playing cards. In later years, Dwight’s perfect evening was a grilled steak supper followed by an evening of the card game 500.
Dwight is survived by his wife Dorothy; sons Bradley of Draper; Randall and Sue Fairchild of Townsend, Montana; Kevin and wife Laura of Draper; Darin and Lisa Cline of Draper; daughters Roxanne Whitaker and husband Carl of Aubrey, Texas and Susan Hamer and husband Charles of Kennebec; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Nelva Louder and wife Janet of Draper; two sisters Deanna Byrd of Kadoka, and Joy Carlson of Rapid City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Anna; step mother Lyda Louder, brother Warren Louder; sister Elsa Buxcell; brother-in laws Larry Byrd and Carl Carlson and one grandson David Louder.
