Arthur Carl Johnston was born April 19, 1908, in Nebraska, to William and Elizabeth (Maahs) Johnston. As a young boy he moved with his parents to a ranch near Belvidere, South Dakota, where he grew up and received his education.
He was united in marriage to Vera Follon on May 22, 1937, in Kadoka. They ranched near Belvidere. She preceded him in death in 1958. To this marriage was born a daughter, Jane.
Arthur was united in marriage to Lois Moler Waldron on June 9, 1963, in Belvidere. They continued to live on the ranch for the rest of their lives.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Johnston, of Belvidere; one daughter, Jane (John) Ekstrum, of Kimball; one grandson, Clay; one brother, Ira Johnston, of Caldwell, Idaho; two sisters, Viola (Larry) Reeves, of McAllen, Texas, and Frances (Virgil) Jensen, of Kimball; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Follon, in 1958; his parents; three brothers, Vern, Melvin, and Louris; and one sister, Ada Sherrill.
