Anna Staehli was born on September 23, 1896, in Plum City, Wisconsin, to Michael and Anna (Bartch) Staehli. She grew up on the farm near Plum City, where she received her education. As a young lady she moved to the Redfield, South Dakota area.
Anna was united in marriage to Leland E. Schoniger, Sr., on June 18, 1925, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. They made their home on a farm in the Redfield, South Dakota area, which they operated until the late 1930's, when they moved into Redfield.
They owned and operated the Nook Café in Redfield until 1962, when they moved to Keystone, South Dakota where they managed the Copper Room Rest in the summer months until retiring in 1971. After retiring they moved to Philip, South Dakota, where they continued to reside.
Survivors include her husband, Leland Schoniger, Sr., of Philip; two sons, Leland "Lee" Schoniger, of Philip, and Wayne Schoniger, of Phoenix, Arizona; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Staehli of Red Wing, Minnesota; two sisters, Elizabeth Schultz of Red Wing, Minnesota, and Edith Johnson, of Red Wing, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; one great-granddaughter, Audra Nicole Smith; two brothers, Arthur and Henry Staehli; and two sisters, Emma Schultz and Lydia Fredrickson.
