David E. Schofieldof Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, November 28, 2017

David E. Schofield was born January 27, 1940, in Midland, South Dakota, to Albert Eugene (A.E.) and Helen (Stroppel) Schofield. He attended grade school in Powell and Philip High School, graduating in 1958. As a senior he enlisted in the National Guard where he served for over 20 years.
Dave ranched on the Oscar Larson Place and later the Earl Millage Place, along with working weekends at the 73 Bar for James Millage. He also worked at the Philip Livestock Auction during sales. He later purchased the Dakota Bar from E.B. Slovek which he owned and operated for many years. Dave later purchased a building and started the NAPA Auto Parts Store and operated that until selling it in 2013.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Philip. Because of health reasons, David moved into the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood in 2012. He later moved to the Prairie Hills Nursing Home in Rapid City.
Dave was a people person and liked to visit with anyone he came into contact with.
Grateful for having shared his life are his three brothers, Tom Schofield and his wife Janet, Bob Schofield and his wife Harla, and Dan Schofield, all of Philip; four sisters, Mary K. Hart of Billings, Montana, Ellen Schofield of Philip, Vi Schofield of Philip, and Vera O’Grady of Rapid City; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 1 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip with Father Gary Oreshoski as celebrant and with Deacon Lloyd Frein assisting.
Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
A memorial is established to the Philip Volunteer Fire Department and Prairie Transportation.
