Ora Belle Conlee

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Monday, July 8, 1985
at the Kadoka Care Center in Kadoka at the age of 97

Ora Belle Peck was born August 1, 1887, near Hillsboro, Iowa, to Christopher and Mary Abigale (Huddleston) Peck. She grew up and received her education in that area.

Ora was united in marriage to Linza Conlee on April 16, 1908, in Sioux City, Iowa. After their marriage they moved to the Kadoka, South Dakota area where her husband homesteaded.

They raised eight children on the homestead there. Her husband, Linza, preceded her in death on July 7, 1938.

She moved into Kadoka in 1940. Ora was employed at Pearl Hotel in Kadoka and also cooked at the Kadoka Hospital. She spent some of her time helping elderly people in the Kadoka area. She moved into the Kadoka Care Center in 1983.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Petras, of Kadoka, Helen Smith, of Greenville, Illinois, and Lucille Herber, of Sheridan, Oregon; 25 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; one sister, Faye Nixon, of Cantril, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Linza; two sons, Andrew and Arthur; three daughters, Mabel Williams, Sylvia Covey, and Eunice Gartner; one grandson, Dale Smith; her parents; three sisters, Issie, Minnie, and Della; and two brothers, Van and Ivah.
