Shirley A. Bulsof Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2016
|
Shirley Ann Johnson was born on July 26, 1938, in Philip, SD, to Myrtle and Elmer Johnson. She was the youngest of five children: Marian, MC, Daryl, and Milo, who grew up in the Billsburg area.
She married Jerome Sether on September 6, 1955, in Rapid City. They had two children, Karen (1957) and Bret (1959). In the beginning of their marriage they traveled around for work. Shirley especially hated Arkansas, and the family returned to Philip in 1967 where she worked at a variety of jobs including Dies Grocery, Deputy Assessor, and Dorothy Brothers until she lost Jerome in 1987.
Shirley was united in marriage to Bill Buls on July 16, 1988, in Belle Fourche. They raised two children, Ben (1979) and Brad (1981). Shirley worked alongside Bill on the Buls ranch. Come spring and summertime you could always find her in the hayfield.
Shirley enjoyed crocheting dollies and afghans to share with many family and friends. She also enjoyed a good batch of lefsa and baking, but only when the sun was shining. She loved to dance, go on poker-runs, dress up for Halloween, play Friday night bingo, and visit with everyone she met.
Shirley and Bill enjoyed traveling once he got her talked into leaving home. They traveled throughout the US, Spain, Jamaica, Alaska, Portugal and thoroughly enjoyed their time in Ireland.
