William "Bill" Biermann

of Rapid City, South Dakota, formerly of Midland, South Dakota, died on Saturday, August 17, 1985
at his home in Rapid City at the age of 88

William "Bill" Biermann was born on September 13, 1896, in Illinois, to August and Sophie (Watterman) Biermann. As a young boy he moved with his parents to the Spirit Lake, Iowa, area where he grew up. As a young man he moved to the Capa, South Dakota, area where he homesteaded.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his marriage to Winifred Joy on September 24, 1925, at the Joy residence north of Midland, they ranched his homestead until retiring in January 1985. At that time they moved into the Dakota Apartments in Rapid City.

Survivors include his wife, Winifred Biermann, of Rapid City; one son, Edwin Biermann, of Midland; three daughters, Hazel (Kenneth) Knutson, of Toronto, South Dakota; Helen (Leon) Towne, of Muncie, Indiana, and Joy (Everett) Athow, of Rapid City; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Biermann, of Sioux Falls; one sister, Caroline (Harold) Hayes, of Custer; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, August and Ernest; and two sisters, Gertrude and Augusta.
