Harold "Bud" Weller Obituary

Harold Dean Weller, age 91, better known as “Bud” by his family and friends, went to his heavenly home on Sunday morning, June 25, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born May 19, 1932 in Arriba, Colorado, to Leonard “Bill” Weller and Stella (Anderson) Weller. He grew up in Arriba where he completed 11 years of schooling. His family then moved to Kadoka, South Dakota, and he graduated from Kadoka High School in 1950.

As a young man he worked with his parents farming and ranching. On December 3, 1952, during the Korean Conflict, he entered the U.S. Army, served with peace keeping forces in Italy, and retired as a CPL on November 10, 1954. After his discharge he returned to the Weller ranch/farm west of Kadoka.

Bud was united in marriage to Clara Belle Wilson on August 14, 1955, in Kadoka. They made their home on the Weller farm/ranch where they lived until May 20, 1967, when they moved to the Sears ranch south of Kadoka in the Badlands. After Clara Belle's death he continued to live on the ranch until 2021. In April of 2021 he moved to Macksville, Kansas, to live with his daughter Terri and son-in-law Dan Renfro.

He was a member of the Kadoka Presbyterian Church, and proud to be an active member of the Wanblee American Legion Post. He also loved his church family at the Father's House of Worship in Sun City, Kansas.

Survivors include son Keith (Diane) Weller of Minnetonka, Minnesota; daughters Katie (Craig) Knutson of Spearfish, South Dakota and Terri (Dan) Renfro of Macksville, Kansas; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife Clara Belle on October 25, 2013; his parents; four sisters: Marjorie Borbely, June Wanczyk, Ivaleen Weller, and Shirley Josserand; and three brothers: Dwane, Robert, and W.O. “Bill” Weller.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2023 at the Kadoka Bible Church.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Kadoka Bible Church with Pastor Jesse Taylor officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow at the Kadoka Cemetery.

A second memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at Father's House of Worship located at 201 E Main Street Sun City, Kansas.

Memorials can be designated to either Kadoka Bible Church or Eagle Nest Lift Center, Wanblee, for outreach ministry.

I truly loved seeing Bud in church every Sunday and wanted to get to know him better. He was one of the kindest gentlemen I would see each Sunday. It was a punch in the gut to hear he had passed just before services last Sunday but I know he is celebrating in glory now. I would be a poorer man had I never met Bud Weller.

Dear family
Sometimes the right words are hard to find. Thank you for allowing us to call you family and for sharing Papa Bud with us all of these years. We were so blessed to have Papa Bud and Grama ClaraBelle as grandparents for so long, and an even bigger blessing is that our kids also got to love them. So many trips to the bunkhouse for tea parties and cooking.
