Jody Johannesenof Wall, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2023
|
Barbara Jo “Jody” Stacey was born March 20, 1954, in Webster, South Dakota, the daughter of Donald and Lucille (Humphrey) Stacey. She grew up in eastern South Dakota, before the family moved to Wall in 1971. It was there in October 1971 that Jody met a gentleman with “puppy dog eyes.” After a three month courtship, Jody was united in marriage to Jerry Johannesen on December 30, 1971, at the Rapid Valley Methodist Church.
Jody and Jerry made their home in Wall. They remained in the same home all 51 years of their married life. During this time, Jody did books for JJ’s construction, and was an integral part of JJ’s Crafts, and helped with the farmer’s market they had in their shop last fall. Jody had various employments in the Wall community, ending with her favorite place, the Buffalo Gift Shop, until her health forced her retirement.
Jody was an excellent cook and baker. She thoroughly enjoyed dancing, knitting, crocheting, and sewing clothes for her husband, self, and kids. For the last eight years, Jerry and Jody welcomed her mother Lucille into the house next door, and they all enjoyed spending that time together.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jerry; favorite oldest son Jerry and his wife Laura, her favorite middle son Ron, her favorite youngest son, Joel and his wife Jodi, and her favorite youngest child Stacey Santiago and her husband David; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren (and one on the way); her mother Lucille Blashill; four sisters Patty Hauk, Lisa Michalski, Elizabeth Fox, and Bonnie Saltzman; a brother-in-law Harry Horst; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jody was preceded in death by her father Donald Stacey; two brothers Ronald Stacey and a brother at birth; sister Donna Horst; a granddaughter Stacey Nicole, and a great-grandson Emerson.
