Shirley Josserandof Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Saturday, July 10, 2021
|
Shirley Ann Josserand was born October 8, 1929, near Weskan, Kansas to Stella (Anderson) and Leonard “Bill” Weller. As a small child the family moved to a farm north of Arriba, Colorado. Shirley had seven other siblings: sisters June, Margie, and Ivaleen, and brothers Harold “Bud”, W.O. “Billy”, Duane, and Willard Lee. Shirley lived the rest of her childhood in Colorado and worked at Peterson’s Dry Goods Store and for the telephone company.
Shirley accepted Christ at age 13 and was baptized at the Congregational Church in Arriba. Shirley was united in marriage to Orville Josserand on October 9, 1949, and after that they moved to South Dakota where they settled down and started a family. Orville and Shirley had four children: Boyd, Merilee, Coleen, and Lloyd. Unfortunately, Boyd and Lloyd had a rare disease that affects only boys and died ten years apart. The family spent much time in Minneapolis, Minnesota due to the boy’s health, and Shirley worked at St. Mary’s Hospital while the boys were receiving care.
Shirley and Orville farmed many years north of Kadoka. Shirley loved the Lord and taught Sunday School to young children, served as a decon, helped with VBS and early release time, and was an avid member of the Kadoka Presbyterian Church for many years. Shirley also worked the prayer chain, quilted for the orphanage, and volunteered her time in many aspects of the community. She was a wonderful cook, baker, and gardener and enjoyed serving her family and friends. Shirley loved music and was able to play piano by ear. She was a loving and kind grandmother to her grandchildren and all the neighbor kids for many years.
Survivors include her husband Orville of Kadoka; two daughters Merilee Grimes and her husband Jerry of Kadoka, and Coleen McHolland and her husband Matthew of Falbrook, California; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother Harold "Bud" Weller of Kadoka; a sister-in-law Jean Weller of Kadoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Leonard "Bill" and Stella Weller; two sons Boyd and Lloyd Josserand; a granddaughter Jessica Grimes; two brothers and a sister as children Duane, Willard Lee, and Ivaleen Weller; two sisters Marjorie Borbely and June Wanczyk; a brother W.O.
