of Quinn, South Dakota, died on Saturday, October 14, 2023 peacefully at Monument Health in Rapid City with family and friends by his side at the age of 54
Dale Richard Sawvell was born November 21, 1968, in Rapid City, South Dakota to Don and Marcia (Anderson) Sawvell. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Wall. Dale attended grade school in Wall and graduated from Wall High School in 1987. It was during this time that he made many lifelong friends, including his wife Jackie.
After high school Dale continued to farm and ranch side-by-side with his dad. Together they built and fixed many things, and if the neighbors were struggling and needed something done, Dale and his dad would help.
When Jackie moved back to the area, Dale and she began to date. On June 16, 1995, they were united in marriage. They purchased the Hildebrandt farm/ranch from Dale’s parents and started their life together. In April 1999 Jesse was born and a year later in April 2000 Kyla was born. Dale continued to work side-by-side with his family, which was one of his life’s greatest pleasures. When Jesse graduated from Tech School, they worked together to continue the Sawvell Farm legacy. Dale was a third generation farmer and was able to work cattle and harvest corn one last time with Jesse. Together, as a family, they enjoyed farming and ranching, traveling, attending their children’s sporting events, dancing, and spending time with the ones they loved.
Dale was a member of the Crescent Lodge #210, NAJA Shrine Club, and United Methodist Church. He also served on the Huron Township Board and Wall Golf Course Board. Dale also held gatherings and safety meetings at the Buck Horn (AKA Shop). Some of his hobbies included bowling, golfing, hunting, and snowmobiling.
Dale was born with a naturally sweet and kind soul, a heart of gold, and a big smile for everyone he met. He was a joy to be around and will be missed more than words can express. Dale will be forever in our hearts until we meet again.
Survivors include his wife Jackie; two children Jesse Sawvell and Kyla Sawvell of Quinn; a sister Lana Ruppert and her husband Steve of Fayetteville, Georgia; a brother Jody Sawvell and his wife Laniece of Quinn; his father and mother-in-law Wayne and Marcia Huether of Interior; brother-in-law Scott and his Tammy Huether of Interior; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents Don and Marcia Sawvell; his paternal grandparents Floyd and Mildred Sawvell; and his maternal grandparents Enoch Christian and Francis Gertrude Anderson.
